For this first article, we’re excited to make you discover Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes in Versailles, that takes place every summer from June 20th to September 19th.
There, the fountains and the fireworks will enchant you, but this year, you will also be amazed by Anish Kapoor’s installations throughout the park. We heard much about the “Queen’s Vagina” but we noted especially the Sky Mirror that make us stare at the sky and the C-Curve, that makes heads spin.
As soon as you arrive, you’ll see through a bubble storm the gold-and-marble Bassin de Latone that has been reopened after 2 years of restoration works. Walk through the alleys, listening to Lully, and be carried away by the dances of water and light, the dreamlike sets and the beauty of the place.
You might not be able to see everything, because there is simply too much to see, so go ahead and find a spot with a clear view of the Grand Canal. You’ll hear the fountains stop and it’s time for the show! The 15-minutes fireworks will make you go back through time with its royal melodies and its huge flames brightening up the night.
To make it even more perfect, the Castle organizes each year a masked ball, le Grand Bal Masqué, that you can only access with a costume. On that day, you can glimpse at fabulous dresses or wigs with birds or boats in the Marie-Antoinette style. We even saw the Sun King and his ermine coat!
