« Première Vision » is the no.1 event for all professionals from Fashion, Luxury and ready-to-wear. It is organized twice a year in Paris, New York, Sao Paulo and Istanbul and each edition corresponds to the collection that will end up in stores… a year later. It can seem a long time, but there are a lot of steps before a dress arrives in your hands like prototyping, photo shooting or selection of stores. The quest for elegance and quality is indeed a long way.
When you enter the Parc des expositions, where the fair takes place, you enter a unique world with its own language. There, you can find manufacturers for fabrics, jewelry, buttons or even packaging, but also trend displays. Those “predictions” are well guarded by the security and cameras are not welcome.
The Parisian fair is also the biggest and most international in the Fashion industry. Under the metal and glass ceiling of the Parc des Expositions, you can hear languages from the 5 continents. It is like discovering Babylon, the most cosmopolite city of Antiquity. But here, don’t expect to get some rest on the shadow of Palm trees: we’re here to negotiate.
Première Vision is a 6-in-1 fair, and the Fabrics section is itself divided in a dozen categories that are still not clear even after 3 days walking the alleys back and forth: High Fancies, Premium Relax or Tailoring… We could believe that the “Silkies” section was where to find the most elegant silk and viscose, but not only! Our precious cloths are hiding in every corner and the simple visit turns into a marathon to cover each section and don’t miss a thing. Thankfully, we are starting to get used to it, as it is the second time we visit the fair for Duplicata.
Producers are presenting samples of their fabrics, called “hangers”, from which we make selection that will be sent to us after the fair, hopefully without having to remind them. Those fabrics are the basis to start imagining the future collection. For a new brand, the biggest problem is the “MOQ”, aka Minimum Quantity Orders. Luckily, our favorite producers from Italy and Spain are generally more flexible.
Of course, we’ll share with you the next steps in the Fashion collection and we can’t wait to show you!
