Our motivation here at Duplicata, is to offer you the dress in which you will feel confident and elegant in any circumstances. We are convinced that everything starts with the choice of quality fabrics, soft materials that you wear like a second skin. This implies a rigorous selection of the composition of our fabrics.
There are three main families of textile fibers : natural, artificial and synthetic fibers. But what’s the difference ?
Natural fibers are found in nature : they can come either from plants like cotton, linen or bamboo, or from animals like wool, silk and “hair” with cashmere, angora or mohair… For the Spring Summer 16 collection, we have selected cotton and silk fabrics. Cotton fabrics are resistant, easy care and absorbent. It allows very diverse weaving, thus creating astonishing textures. Silk, our favorite material, is the finest and longest of natural threads… Its lightness and softness make it the best ally for your skin.
Artificial fibers are produced by man from natural polymers, like the cellulose found in bamboo, soya or pine bark. They are used to create viscose, also known as “artificial silk”, cupro, lyocell and less known fabrics such as “lanital”, made from milk casein. We chose to use viscose for the next collection, as it is as shiny as silk and so smooth you won’t feel it.
Synthetic fibers are produced from chemical components coming mostly from… Hydrocarbon. The first synthetic fiber to be commercialized was the Nylon, from 1935. Funny story, the legend says Nylon means “Now You’re Lost Old Nippons” because Japanese used to have the monopoly over silk production. Today, the polyester is dominating the Fast Fashion.
Even though synthetic fibers offer original aspects, we have a common aversion for polyester… And who never hated a garment that make you sweat and stick to the skin ? Using synthetic fibers, or as we call it “plastic” has a main advantage : their cost is 2 to 3 times cheaper than silk or cotton ! But in order to feel comfortable in your clothes, you need a fabric that allows the skin to breathe, and for that, there is nothing better than fibers from natural origine, either purely natural or artificial.
