When creating a brand, finding the right name is certainly the most important step, but also the most difficult. It is a real puzzle to come up with a name that corresponds to the sector of activity and that has not been already taken. You could not believe how many names are used in Perfumery. We could have chosen the easy way with a composed name like “Iphigénie & Racine”. But as you noticed, we kept brainstorming on our duplicity as sisters and we finally both fell in love with “Duplicata”.
Time for the second step: the logo! What about a Rorschach test? For the anecdote, the Rorschach test is a tool used in Psychology based on the interpretation of abstract inkblot. Hermann Rorschach (Brad Pitt’s doppelganger), created in 1921 ten cards with black and colored inkblots. You’ve probably seen this technique in movies, but it is also a endless inspiration for artists, as the eponymous painting by Andy Warhol.
We liked this idea because, beyond its graphic characteristics, everyone can see different things. So we got started with some paper and ink to create our own test :
